will.i.am feat. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez T.H.E. The Hardest Ever

It is hard to imagine that these three much celebrated artists could somehow all record together on the same song, will.i.am feat. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez T.H.E. The Hardest Ever.

Apparently Mick Jagger is ending the year strong between the Maroon 5 hit, “Moves Like Jagger” and his performance on will.i.am feat. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez T.H.E. The Hardest Ever, somehow he is back in the limelight again. What may be more amazing is that he is sixty-eight years old! How has he lasted this long with the lifestyle he has chosen? Is it true that last year he was quoted saying that he has a daily meditation and Buddhist practice? Is that the source of his youthful existence? His short piece on will.i.am feat. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez T.H.E. The Hardest Ever even sounds good.

willl.i.am continues to find creative means for producing pop hits without following the typical prescriptions. He does things his own way and makes music that is completely will.i.am-ish, like will.i.am feat. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez T.H.E. The Hardest Ever.

Critical Response to will.i.am feat. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez T.H.E. The Hardest Ever

The song has received mixed reviews from music critics. Simon Vozick-Levinson wrote a mixed review for Rolling Stone, stating that on the single will.i.am “strews dodgy rhymes (“I woke up in the morning/Hard like morning wood in the morning”) over diamond-bright synths, while J. Lo handles the efficient hook. It all feels a bit perfunctory – except for Mick’s guest verse, a kitschy delight delivered in a “Midnight Rambler” snarl.

The website “DJ Booth” also gave to the song a mixed review, writing that “this tough-as-nails cut finds Will, “Audiobot” and Dallas Austin teaming up to craft a danceable synth-percussion beat to back the B.E.P.mastermind as he delivers his trademark blend of Auto-Tuned singing and guilty-pleasure punchline lyricism. After a tuneful guest verse from J-Lo (who also lends her vocals to the chorus), the Rolling Stones frontman grabs the mic to flaunt his considerable swagger (and his poor math skills: “Hard like geometry, trigonometry / This is crazy—psychology”) in a gruff closing 16.”

Amy Sciarretto of “Pop Crush” wrote that “This is not a pretty dance song. It’s harsh, rough around the edges and, well, hard.” Billboards Chris Payne wrote that ” The concept sounds crazy, but Will.i.am is the perfect studio whiz to oversee the commotion. The master of ceremonies adds to the fun by referencing “Back to the Future” to the Wu-Tang Clan to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in his opening verse.

LMFAO Sexy And I Know It

It’s great to see some performers in the music business are still making music just for the fun of it and is real fun to listen and dance like LMFAO Sexy And I Know It. Any professional DJ will smile at this. These guys are such a goof and have no problem making fun of themselves and everybody else along the way. In some ways, they remind me of the many of the early rock and roll bands in the late fifties and early sixties that songs were just for fun and didn’t serve much purpose except to have fun. LMFAO Sexy And I Know It also reminds me of the way The B-52’s enjoy making fun music.

LMFAO Sexy And I Know It Music Video

LMFAO Sexy And I Know It in particular has my attention because it is rare for male performers to make light of guys and body-building while ‘showing-off’ their bodies in a playful manner. Of course, who can not appreciate anyone who thinks they are sexy just because they do, even though they might not fit the typical stereotype of what is sexy?

The LMFAO Sexy And I Know It Story

LMFAO Sexy And I Know It is a song by American duo LMFAO from their second studio album, Sorry for Party Rocking. It was released as the third single from the album on 16 September 2011. The song was written by Stefan Kendal Gordy, GoonRock, Erin Beck, George M. Robertson and Kenneth Oliver, and it was produced by Party Rock. It went to number one on the BillboardHot 100 on January 7, 2012 and remained there for two weeks. Despite such charting success, the song was negatively reviewed by critics.

The song became LMFAO’s second number one hit (after Party Rock Anthem) on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, making them the first duo to have two successive number-one singles since OutKast‘s “Hey Ya!” (2003) and “The Way You Move” (2004). The song also reached number one in Australia, Canada and New Zealand, and charted within the top 10 in nearly every country in which it charted. The song was featured in the season 5, episode 12 of Gossip Girl. and in the Glee episode, “The Spanish Teacher“.

Tom Tom Club Genius of Love

Tom Tom Club Genius of Love was originally planned as a side project from Talking Heads musicians, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz, a husband and wife team. It charted high on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Dance Charts. Tom Tom Club Genius of Love was huge in the clubs for both Dance and early Hip Hop clubs as a professional DJ. Tom Tom Club Genius of Love was one of those songs that was just fun to listen and dance. Previous to the release of their self-titled album and song Tom Tom Club Genius of Love, it was not clear to many how much creative input other Talking Heads members had besides David Byrne.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Hard To Concentrate

This wedding season twice, I have had a request to play Red Hot Chili Peppers Hard To Concentrate at the Recessional at the end of the Ceremony as a Rhode Island Wedding DJ. I enjoyed seeing the couples strutting down the aisle with smiles from ear to ear to Red Hot Chili Peppers Hard To Concentrate. Red Hot Chili Peppers Hard To Concentrate is a great song with such a nice flow to it. Rumor has it Flea asked his wife to marry him to this song.

In early October, I was professional Rhode Island Wedding DJ for a wedding. The Bride wanted a different instrumental version of Red Hot Chili Peppers Hard To Concentrate on piano by Klavier. I had not heard this version previously, but once I heard it, I understood why she wanted it. It was perfect for a beach Ceremony with the lighthouse in the background. She looked fantastic and it was like a scene from a movie with Red Hot Chili Peppers Hard To Concentrate playing in the background as they left the beach with the sun beginning to set, as we watched them making their way up the hill. Frank Sinatra The Way You Look Tonight

It occurred to me recently at a wedding that I have not added many slow songs to the list of music videos reviewed. This, Frank Sinatra The Way You Look Tonight, was the song I was playing when it hit me and figured that would be a great place to start. I know it is more fun and ‘sexier’ to only include the fast and hot songs but Frank Sinatra The Way You Look Tonight and many other great artists have recorded such a wealth of outstanding classic slow songs for the professional Wedding DJ.

Rhode Island Wedding DJ Frank Sinatra The Way You Look Tonight

More than any other artist, I grew-up listening to Frank Sinatra. I felt like he was a member of the family at times. His records were always on or close to the record player waiting to be played. Old Blue Eyes as he was called, would sing to us about love and life in the New Jersey/New York City region. I cannot count the number of times I heard my father and other friends and family members arguing over when they saw Sinatra and who he was with. His legendary connections, whether true or false, were part of the Sinatra lore. After all, he was a Jersey Boy from Hoboken.

He learned to sing by ear and never learned how to read music. At age eight he would illegally sing standing on the bar for tips to help his family pay their bills. His success peaked in the late 40’s and early 50’s. His acting career helped him to regain fame in the 60’s and was notorious for hanging with the Rat Pack, his friends Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop, which originally centered around Humphrey Bogart. Sinatra, Martin and Davis were the three ‘core members’. They all starred in the original film, Oceans Eleven.

Beyonce and Jay-Z Crazy In Love

Beyonce’s debut single as a solo artist, Beyonce and Jay-Z Crazy In Love, co-written by Beyonce, Richard Harrison and Jay-Z. The beats and horns are sampled from The Chilites Are You My Woman. After a successful career with Destiny’s Child Beyonce and Jay-Z Crazy In Love was the beginning of her solo recording career and hit the mark from the first beat.

Beyonce and Jay-Z Crazy In Love is a song that I get professional DJ requests almost regardless of genre of the rest of the music being played and works with all of them!

The Highwaymen Mama’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys

The Highwaymen Mama’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys, The Highwaymen were a Country supergroup made up of four incredibly successful Country artists; Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson. They also were known for popularizing the sub-genre; Outlaw Country. These legends of Country Music’s are held in high-esteem among their peers and fans for their songwriting, artistry and voices, as well as ‘The Highwayman’ attitude that they maintained.

The Highwaymen Mama’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys is one of my favorite Willie Nelsons songs. His soft gentle voice contrasts so beautifully with the gritty nature of the lyrics, instrumentation and mindset of the song. The song initially recorded by Ed Bruce, written by him and wife Patsy Bruce.  Willie and Waylon’s version went #1 on The Hot Country Singles charts and won them a Grammy for Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.

The Highwaymen Mama’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys is a great song from some great Country legends.

The Highwaymen Mama’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys Lyrics

Cowboys ain’t easy to love and they’re harder to hold.
They’d rather give you a song than diamonds or gold.
Lonestar belt buckles and old faded levis,
And each night begins a new day.
If you don’t understand him, an’ he don’t die young,
He’ll prob’ly just ride away.

Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys.
Don’t let ’em pick guitars or drive them old trucks.
Let ’em be doctors and lawyers and such.
Mamas don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys.
‘Cos they’ll never stay home and they’re always alone.
Even with someone they love.

Cowboys like smokey old pool rooms and clear mountain mornings,
Little warm puppies and children and girls of the night.
Them that don’t know him won’t like him and them that do,
Sometimes won’t know how to take him.
He ain’t wrong, he’s just different but his pride won’t let him,
Do things to make you think he’s right.

Snap The Power

After the snow storm this past weekend, I had been without ‘the power’, electricity, till Tuesday night. It feels good to have The Power again. As soon as the lights came back on, like any good professional DJ I thought of this song Snap The Power…

Snap The Power Story

“Snap The Power is an electronic pop hit song by the German music group Snap! from their album World Power. It was released in January 1990 and reached number-one in the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, as well as the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play and Hot Rap charts. It is particularly known for its hook “I’ve got the power!”.

The song opens with the somewhat enigmatic line in Russian: “Американская фирма Transceptor Technology приступила к производству компьютеров «Персональный спутник»” (meaning “The American company Transceptor Technology has started production of the ‘Personal Companion’ computer”). “Personal Companion” was a computer-like device for the blind and visually impaired. Released in 1990, it was controlled by voice and could, among other functions, automatically download articles fromUSA Today by a built-in modem. It was made by Transceptor Technologies of Ann Arbor, Michigan.” Wikipedia

On July 5, 2011, a 39-story shopping mall called the “Techno-Mart” in Gwangjin-guSeoul, shook violently for 10 minutes and was evacuated for two days. After study, it was determined that about 20 people performing Tae Bo exercises to “The Power” caused the building to vibrate by creating a mechanical resonance. The tentative conclusion was the consensus among the six professors from an architectural institute and vibration measurement experts who participated in a recreation of the event. The Architectural Institute of Korea was scheduled to release the final results of the safety inspection later in 2011. This occurred after I left Korea. I think this is very interesting.

Johnny Cash Ring Of Fire

Johnny Cash Ring Of Fire is a great song! The release of the movie I Walk The Line introduced a new generation to the greatness of Johnny Cash. He was one of the few artists to be inducted into the The Country Music Hall Of Fame, The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and The Gospel Hall of Fame; quite an accomplishment. He was often known as “The Man In Black” for his dark clothes when performing. He produced several free performances at prisons throughout his career and often did so to facilitate reactions to his choices, bringing attention to the conditions in many prisons and jails. Two of his more famous shows for inmates were recorded, San Quentin and Folsom prisons. he also performed abroad at  Österåker Prison in Sweden, which also produced a live recording.

He generally started his concerts by saying, “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash.” followed by his traditional opening song, “Folsom Prison Blues”.

Cyndi Lauper Girls Just Want To Have Fun

Cyndi Lauper Girls Just Want To Have Fun is such a great and fun song. Cyndi Lauper is one of those artists that it is hard not to like. She is fun, talented, creative and seems to always be completely herself in whatever she does.  A true unique talent who has not veered from her own style and way of doing things.  She was very loyal to her first band that she recorded with, Blue Angel, not allowing the record companies to break them apart.  She eventually found her way as a solo artist and was the first woman to have four Top 5 hits from the same album.

Wedding Bouquet Toss DJ Cyndi Lauper Girls Just Want To Have Fun

“Lauper knew she could write songs, but the record company had a lot of material they wanted her to record. She altered a lot of the songs that were thrown her way, often changing the lyrics to suit her. An example is her Platinum-certified Cyndi Lauper Girls Just Want To Have Fun; Lauper says the original lyrics of the song dealt more with a girl pleasing a man, and therefore she changed the lyrics, wanting the song to be more of an anthem as she felt the original song seemed misogynistic.” Wikipedia

It is noteworthy that Cyndi Lauper Girls Just Want To Have Fun included girls from diverse races and backgrounds in her video, something that was not yet part of the music industry.  It is very common for a professional Wedding DJ play this song during either The Bouquet Toss or Garter during a wedding reception from women of all ages.
