Wedding Entrance Music & Bridal Party Introduction Songs

Wedding Entrance Music

Time to choose your wedding entrance music! Your ceremony is over and it is time for the celebration to begin. After you have had your photographs taken and your guests have mingled and had a drink during cocktail hour, it is time to sit down for the reception.

How To Hire The Best Wedding DJ!

On your way over to the reception venue, give your MC or best man a call so that they can get all your guests to move to their seats.

Alternatively, arrive quietly during the cocktail hour, mingle a little, have a drink and do the formal grand entrance once your guests have taken their seats.

Or you could also enter while the guests are still having cocktail hour. It depends on how much of a grand entrance you plan to make.

Your wedding entrance music or grand entrance song (as it is also known) is a tradition meant to announce you for first time as husband and wife. It is also tradition to announce the rest of the bridal party, but it is not always necessary with smaller weddings where everyone will know one another or with less formal events.

The wedding entrance music you choose should reflect that the fun and celebration is about to start. You can of course choose something more epic if you wish, but generally it should be an upbeat, well-known song to get your guests enthusiastically clapping and welcoming you.

How To Choose The Perfect Wedding Entrance Music

Here are a few questions to ask yourselves to help you decide on the perfect wedding entrance song to use for your grand entrance, and to decide how you want this important event to play out:

1. Will your guests and wedding party recognize the song, or is it too new or obscure to be appreciated?

2. Does it reflect your personalities as a couple and your wedding party?

3. Is this wedding entrance music appropriate for the wedding reception? – even with the most formal of occasions it is appropriate to have a fun and upbeat song for this occasion, but it is never appropriate, no matter how informal the reception is, to play an offensive song with explicit lyrics.

4. Do you want to use an instrumental song or version of a song, or one with lyrics too?

5. Is your wedding party to be announced too, or will it just be the bride and groom?

6. How would you like to be announced – as Mr & Mrs Jones, the Bride and Groom or simply John and Mary?

7. Keep in mind that you will only use a small part of the song (the first minute or so), so choose something that has impact in the first 30 seconds.

8. Enhance your grand entrance further with some special effects – ask your dj or band if they can provide a bubble machine or a smoke machine, or hire one in from an audio visual company.

Once your best man or MC has asked all your guests to be seated, he will gather up the two of you and your wedding party (if they are to be announced as well) outside of the reception area. He must make sure that the DJ or band leader is aware that you are about to do the grand entrance and should have the appropriate music ready.

Choose an entrance song for your wedding party. The grandparents can be acknowledged and introduced where they are seated in the reception area. The bride’s parents will then be introduced followed by the groom’s parents, the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the flower girls and ring bearer, the maid/matron of honor and the best man.

Choose a second wedding entrance song for yourselves, the Bride and Groom.

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros Home

A couple of weeks ago, I was MC & DJ for a Wedding in Westchester County, NY. The Bride and Groom had chosen Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros Home as a Bridal Party Dance Song after their First Dance. It was so much fun! Everybody of all ages ended up dancing, whistling and singing on the dance floor! It was one of the most fun experiences I’ve had as a professional Wedding DJ in quite a while. I will recommend this song for future events now that I know even folks that are not interested in this particular musical style will be able to join in and have fun.

How Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros Home Came To Be

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is an American band led by Alex Ebert, who is also a vocalist of the power pop group Ima Robot. Their first show as a full band was played July 18, 2007 at The Troubadour in West Hollywood, California. Their first full-length recording, Up from Below, was released digitally on July 7, 2009 and physically on July 14, 2009 on Community Records. Their second full-length album, Here, was released on May 29, 2012.

Ebert began work on a book about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe after breaking up with his girlfriend, joining a 12-step program for addiction, and moving into a house with his lifelong friend Nicholas Raymond Kellen. According to Ebert, Sharpe “was sent down to Earth to kinda heal and save mankind…but he kept getting distracted by girls and falling in love.” Ebert later met singer Jade Castrinos outside a downtown Los Angeles cafe.

The Beastie Boys (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)

The Beastie Boys (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)is a classic song and The Beastie Boys are legends that have left a legacy across genre and generations.  I remember when I was the professional DJ at a graduation party for a friend of mine. Halfway through the night, my friend Mark came up and handed me a record and said, “Play this”.

“What is it?”

“Don’t worry, just play it”.

It was his party so I played it. It was The Beastie Boys (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party). I was hooked. Very few artist have been as experimental and creative with their bold attempts to try few things for themselves and for all musicians simultaneously like The Beastie Boys (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party).

U2 Beautiful Day

U2 Beautiful Day. On this day, December 9th, in the year 2000, U2 made their first appearance on Saturday Night Live. As much as they are viewed as a commercial band today, that was not always the case. In fact, U2 was a band that started by Larry Mullen, Jr, the band’s drummer at age fourteen. He had posted a flier at his school looking for guys to start a band.  The other three members that are still with the band showed-up along with a few other guys who either chose not to stick with the group or faded away. Their first meeting and rehearsal was in his kitchen. It was not till four years later that they received their first recording contract and were not very successful.

U2 Beautiful Day Music Video

An interesting note about the band. After their second album, The Edge, Bono and Mullen joined a Christian rock band named “Shalom Fellowship” and U2 almost broke-up over the spiritual direction of the band, long before U2 Beautiful Day.

U2 Beautiful Day with Rhode Island Wedding DJ

U2 Beautiful Day is the first track from their 2000 album, All That You Can’t Leave Behind, and it was released as the album’s lead single. It was a commercial success, helping launch the album to multi-platinum status, and is one of U2’s biggest hits to date. Like many tracks from All That You Can’t Leave Behind, U2 Beautiful Day harkens back to the group’s past sound. The tone of The Edge‘s guitar was a subject of debate amongst the band members, as they disagreed on whether he should use a sound similar to that from their early career in the 1980s. Lead vocalist Bono explained that the upbeat track is about losing everything but still finding joy in what one has.

U2 Beautiful Day received positive reviews, and it became their fourth number-one single in the UK and their first number-one in the Netherlands. The song peaked at number 21 in the United States, the band’s highest position since “Discothèque” in 1997. In2001, the song won three Grammy Awards for Song of the YearRecord of the Year, and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The group has played U2 Beautiful Day at every one of their concerts since the song’s 2001 live debut on the Elevation Tour.

Daft Punk One More Time

Daft Punk One More Time. Daft Punk are an electronic music duo consisting of French musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (born February 8, 1974) and Thomas Bangalter (born January 3, 1975). Daft Punk One More Time reached significant popularity in the late 1990s house movement in France and met with continued success in the years following, combining elements of House with SynthPop that any professional DJ welcomes and embraces.

Fun Wedding DJ Dancing Daft Punk One More Time

Early in the group’s career, the band members were strongly influenced by groups such as The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones.  Daft Punk is noted for its elaborate live shows, in which visual elements and effects are incorporated with the music. The group is also known for its emphasis on visual and story components associated with their musical productions, as well as for wearing ornate robot costumes in public and while performing.

The 2001 release Discovery took on a slicker and distinctly synthpop-oriented style, initially stunning fans of Daft Punk’s previous material in Homework. The group states that the album was conceived as an attempt to reconnect with a playful, open-minded attitude associated with the discovery phase of childhood. This accounts for the heavy use of themes and samples from the late ’70s to early ’80s era on the album. It reached #2 in the United Kingdom, and its single Daft Punk One More Time was a major club and mainstream hit, which nearly topped the UK Singles Chart. The song is well known for being heavily auto-tuned and compressed. The song and album created a new generation of fans mainly familiar with the second Daft Punk release

Daft Punk One More Time Music Video

From a professional DJ’s perspective, Daft Punk One More Time is a great song to segue from one genre to another, whether it be from House to Pop/Dance/R&B or the reverse. Daft Punk One More Time will work if mixed properly with almost all music.

Dropkick Murphys I’m Shipping Up To Boston

Recently I had a young couple ask me if I would play Dropkick Murphys I’m Shipping Up To Boston and I had to think for a minute to recall what song they were talking about. I had a vague memory in my head and listened to Dropkick Murphys I’m Shipping Up To Boston later to verify what they were talking about. Immediately I was all pumped up when my mind kicked into gear and saw the scene from the film The Departed and Dropkick Murphys I’m Shipping Up To Boston was so forceful and stayed in my head weeks later. What a way to bring out your friends and family! It is not for everybody but for a couple with a bit of an edge and willingness to take a risk, Dropkick Murphys I’m Shipping Up To Boston is totally a fun way to come out and join the rest of the Wedding Reception. I can’t wait till I get to play it for them in a couple of weeks. Of course now I can’t get the song out of my head again. This is the original version which is a bit harder than the movie version.

Dropkick Murphys I’m Shipping Up To Boston Original Music Video

A fun aspect for me as a professional Wedding DJ in the process of planning the wedding with a Bride and Groom is picking their The Bridal Party Introduction Songs or First Dance songs.  Although many choose the more expected route of Beyonce, Usher and other popular hits and classics, there are many who choose to go a much different direction. Recently this list has included some interesting covers of pop hits like the The Muse version of Can’t Take My Eyes Off  You or The Flaming Lips Borderline. They made great First Dances with the mixing of slower and faster, hard tempo and energy. But Dropkick Murphys I’m Shipping Up To Boston as a Bridal Party Introduction Song?

Bridal Party Flash Mob Dance at Wedding

The Bride’s Uncle approached me while I was setting-up my BOSE L1 Audio System up an hour before his niece’s Wedding.  He was one of three Uncles that helped raise her after her father died as a young child. Each man represented a different aspect of her life and she wanted to have a “Father’Daughter Dance” with each one. Together we selected songs that would accurately fit the meaning they had for her.  She was ecstatic with the songs and knew they were perfect. Uncle Jon and I were talking and he asked me if I had a CD player in my system for something for The Bridal Party. I do and I asked why he wanted to know?

Bridal Party Flash Mob Dance at Wedding surprising Bride and Groom with Rhode Island Wedding DJ

“Well, me and the Bridal Party got together and rehearsed a Bridal Party Flash Mob Dance that is a surprise to Nikki and Jon. It is based on “Gangnam Style” but we did a voice over of their names and call it “Jon and Nikki Style”. It is really fun and The Bridal Party and I  put a lot of work into. If you can’t do it on CD, I have also put the file on a USB stick drive too.”

“Wow! That sounds like so much fun! We can do it either way but CD would be better. This is such a sweet thing for all of you to do and she will love it”

We proceeded to download the song and discuss the specifics including when and how we would pull it off without her knowing with the whole Bridal Party present later tonight night after dinner. When we both felt like our plan was set, we returned to our respective tasks to prepare for the Wedding Cocktail Hour and Reception.

At around 8:30, we connected again to make sure everything was ready and he had communicated with all the Bridal Party and they were all present and prepared. We went over the visual cue I would give him so he can then offer the Bridal Party another cue. We both walked away from our conversation with big, silly grins on our faces.

 The Bridal Party Is Ready!

I could barely contain my excitement as I gave him the nod of my head and eye contact and cued the song. I pressed play and all twelve members of the Bridal Party came from all different directions meeting on the dance floor and to do their choreographed dance. It was fantastic and I had to hold back the tears of laughter and joy. What a beautiful gift to the Bride and Groom! Everybody had so much fun and the smiles and laughs filled the room. Jon and Nikki were the happiest. She came up to me with tears in her eyes  and a big hug and asked how I put this together with The Bridal Party. I explained that her Uncle was the man, not me. She didn’t believe me.

The Celtic, Reggae, Rockin’ Wedding DJ

It is not every day that a Wedding DJ gets to play Celtic, Reggae and Classic Rock at a wedding. In fact, I do not think I have ever had the opportunity before this weekend, to blend these genres in one fun wedding. The wedding was a young couple form Florida at The Bethwood in Totowa, NJ. The Bethwood has an excellent staff and the food is delicious. As with all weddings, it was the people and the Wedding DJ music that made the event special.

The couple and I worked together to form an excellent playlist to meet the needs of their eclectic tastes and to make sure their parents and family would have fun too. I think we did a decent job based on the comments and smiles. The Bridal Party Introduction Song they chose was from the Dropkick Murphys “I’m Shippin’ To Boston”. You may know this song from the film The Departed. They picked Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” as their First Dance Song. That set the tone for the afternoon and we never turned back.

It was fun mixing between Reggae, Rock and Celtic Music with some popular dance tunes along the way. What we didn’t expect as a pleasant surprise was the requests to dance to some Oldies like Ritchie Valens, Frankie Valli and a young woman even wanted to hear Jay Black & The Americans! I can’t remember the last time I had a request for “This Magic Moment” from someone under fifty before, no less a twenty-something-year-old. That was the kind of celebration this day was- anything and everything was welcome and worked with the Wedding DJ.

Popular Bridal Party Introduction Songs for Wedding DJs

Since I have been planning many weddings lately, I thought it would be a good idea to add a list of popular Bridal Party Songs for Wedding DJs. It is not inclusive of all the songs I have played but it gives people ann opportunity to look at what other couples found good songs to help inspire them to find their own.  As a professional Wedding DJ, The Bridal Party Songs are often the most fun since they have become a real party-type vibe these days. It used to be a rather solemn experience but not any more! It is becoming more and more popular for all the guests at the reception to be on their feet, clapping, cheering and having a great time as the Wedding DJ & MC Introduce them to the delight of their friends and family.
