Rhode Island DJ Music Chart – Week of 8/27
As has been the case for most of this summer, Robin Thicke “Blurred Lines” is still #1. This week he is followed by Zedd “Clarity”, Maroon 5 “Love Somebody”, Imagine Dragons “Radioactive” and Calvin Harris “I Need Your Love”.
DJ Music Chart – Week of 8/27
“Blurred Lines” is a song recorded by Canadian-American R&B recording artist Robin Thicke for his 2013 album of the same name. The song features guest vocals from American rapper T.I. and American singer and producer Pharrell; all three share writing credits on the song. It was produced by Pharrell. The song was released as the lead single from Blurred Lines on March 26, 2013 through Star Trak Recordings.
The single has peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, as well as topping the Billboard R&B Songs chart. It has also become Thicke’s most successful song on the Billboard Hot 100, being his first to reach number one (and the top 10) on the chart (he previously peaked at number 14 on the Hot 100 with “Lost Without U“, in 2007). The song has been a worldwide hit, topping the charts in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and the United Kingdom, as well as the top ten in Belgium, Denmark, Lithuania, France, Iceland, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland. As of July 17, 2013, it is the second best-selling single of 2013 in the UK, the Official Charts Company confirmed that it had sold one million copies, behind Daft Punk‘s single “Get Lucky“, which also features Pharrell Williams, And as of August 8, 2013, it is also the second best-selling single of 2013 in the US having sold 4.614 million copies (it only trails “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz, which has sold 5.77 million copies in 2013). In the United States, the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eleven consecutive weeks, becoming the longest running number one single of 2013 and of the 2010s decade surpassing Rihanna‘s We Found Love (2011). This feat also gave him the eighth lead male solo artist in Billboard history to rack ten or more weeks at the number one spot for a single.
The music video was released on March 20, 2013, and was made in two versions; the first video features models Emily Ratajkowski, Jessi M’Bengue, and Elle Evans being topless, the second features them covered. The topless version of the video was removed from YouTube on March 30, 2013, for violating the site’s terms of service regarding nudity, though it was later restored, but flagged as inappropriate.
On July 28, 2013, “Blurred Lines” broke the record for radio audience previously held by Mariah Carey‘s We Belong Together in 2005. A press release from Interscope said as of the last week in July 2013, the track reached more than 242.65 million listeners.
“Blurred Lines” was produced by Thicke and Williams with an intention of creating a sound similar to Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up“. The song was completed in less than an hour. In an interview with GQ‘s Stelios Phili, Thicke explained: “Pharrell and I were in the studio and […] I was like, ‘Damn, we should make something like that [“Got to Give It Up”], something with that groove.’ Then he started playing a little something and we literally wrote the song in about half an hour and recorded it. Him and I would go back and forth where I’d sing a line and he’d be like, ‘Hey, hey, hey!’ We started acting like we were two old men on a porch hollering at girls like, ‘Hey, where you going, girl? Come over here!'” In a separate interview, Thicke clarified the meaning of the song’s title, saying it referred to “the good-girl/bad-girl thing and what’s appropriate.”All courtesy of Wikipedia.

Cancer victim, 16, dies shortly after dream DJ gig in Las Vegas – Las Vegas Sun News
This is such a beautiful story. I am so glad DJ Mash-Up King gave this kid a chance to fulfill his dream DJ gig before he died. It is unfortunate that few professional DJs provide these kinds of opportunities for individuals like Tanner Seebaum, or anybody who has a dream DJ gig. It continues to disappoint me that the Wedding DJ and Party DJ industries are predominantly a business of me-first, all-about-the-money entertainers. Like most professionals, we have to support our communities and make sure we share our experience and talents when opportunities are right for us.

Cancer victim, 16, dies shortly after Dream DJ Gig
Teen DJ Tanner Seebaum died on Friday in Centennial, Colo., after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
Seebaum, 16, had battled brain tumors for most of his life and was diagnosed last year with an inoperable tumor. Around June, doctors gave him only a few weeks to live.
With the help of DJ Mash-Up King (Landon Dyksterhouse) and the Hard Rock Hotel, Seebaum fulfilled his final wish in Las Vegas. Seebaum, who was an avid DJ, was given an hourlong slot on June 22 to perform a set at Rehab Pool during Electric Daisy Carnival weekend. His medley of beats and song mash-ups kept the crowd at the famous day club dancing and bobbing their heads poolside.
It was a dream DJ gig he never thought would come true.
“We’re just very thankful to Las Vegas in general for changing our perception of the people, of the attitudes, and graciousness and openness they showed for letting Tanner do this; to Landon, to Hard Rock, they did a lot to make that happen for Tanner,” Matt Seebaum, Tanner’s father, said. “It’s kind of what he needed to let go. We sort of joked that he had to do Vegas before he could let go.”
Tanner is survived by his parents, Matt and Stephanie Seebaum, and sister, Ellie. Donations can be made to the Tanner Seebaum Foundation at tannersfoundation.org. The foundation raises money for brain and spine tumor research.

Rhode Island DJ Music Chart – Week of 7/9

DJ Music Chart Tops Blurred Lines Controversy
Robin Thicke has hit back at critics who called his hit song “Blurred Lines” (and its corresponding music video) as misogynistic. “I can’t even dignify that with a response, that’s ridiculous,” Thicke told BBC’s Radio 1.
He did, of course, dignify that with a response. Here it is: “I don’t want to be sleazy, I’m a gentleman, I’ve been in love with the same woman since I’ve been a teenager. I don’t want to do anything inappropriate.”
Thicke says that his wife, actress Paula Patton, actually pushed him to release the NSFW version of the video that was pulled from and re-added to YouTube. “My initial response was I love the clothed version, I don’t think we should put out the naked version,” he said. “And then I showed it to my wife and all of her girlfriends and they said, ‘You have to put this out, this is so sexy and so cool.'”
In the clip, Thicke, Pharrell Williams and T.I. cavort with naked models, flipping their hair and generally dancing around them. Some critics dubbed the video and song “rapey,” pointing to lines like “I know you want it” and the video as “blurring” the lines of consent and agency.
Not so, says Thicke. “For me it’s about blurring the lines between men and women and how much we’re the same,” he said. “And the other side which is the blurred lines between a good girl and a bad girl, and even very good girls all have little bad sides to them.”

The Popular Songs to Get Your Wedding Guests Dancing | Bridal Banter Blog
Here is a list of the Popular Songs to Get Your Wedding Guests Dancing. It is not a list I came-up with or even agree with, but full of great ideas. These are the standard Wedding Dance Songs that are not for every Bride and Groom or Wedding. There are many not as popular that I play and get sensational responses at most Weddings as a Wedding DJ. Again, these are the most popular, not necessarily the best.
Popular Songs to Get Your Wedding Guests Dancing

A friend recently told me her biggest fear about her wedding is that people won’t dance. So I asked friends on Facebook for surefire songs to get guests on the dance floor. Here’s what they came up, with a few additions of my own:
“I Want You Back,” Jackson 5 — I’ve written about the dancing allure of “I Want You Back” before, and when I asked friends for suggestions, this song came up immediately. Also, I personally witnessed a wedding last weekend that started the dance set with this song. It did indeed bring the crowd to the dance floor.
“Groove Is in the Heart,” Deee-Lite
“Get Down On It,” Kool & the Gang
“Love Shack,” B-52s
“It Takes Two,” Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock
“All the Single Ladies,” Beyonce
“Hey Ya,” OutKast
“Jungle Boogie,” Kool & the Gang
“C’mon N’ Ride It (The Train),” Quad City DJ
“Come On Eileen,” Dexys Midnight Runners
“Shout,” the Isley Brothers
“Livin’ on a Prayer,” Bon Jovi — People don’t so much dance as wail this song and make big sweeping arm movements. Still, it’s funny.
“Sweet Caroline,” Neil Diamond — Sweet Caroline produces a similar reaction to Livin’ on a Prayer, strangely enough, though people are more likely to throw their arms over someone’s shoulder and sway to the music.
“Pour Some Sugar on Me,” Def Leopard — Another wailer.
“Birdhouse in Your Soul,” They Might Be Giants — This one sounds like a strange choice, but for the right age group (30-ish), it’s a hit and will result in lots of jumping up and down.
“Upside Down,” Diana Ross
“Footloose,” Kenny Loggins
“Call Me Maybe,” Carly Rae Jepsen — It’s probably going to get tired any day now, but I saw a crowd get down with wild abandon to it this weekend.
“Vogue,” Madonna — Expect people to actually vogue — and expect to laugh at it.
“Thriller,” Michael Jackson — People like to dance like zombies.
“Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” Michael Jackson
“Kiss,” Prince
“You Shook Me All Night Long,” AC/DC
“Celebration,” Kool & the Gang
“Build Me Up Buttercup,” the Foundations
“Twist & Shout,” Beatles
“Independent Women,” Destiny’s Child
“1999,” Prince
“Back in Black,” AC/DC
“Dancing With Myself,” Billy Idol

Rhode Island DJ Music Chart – Week of 6/25
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis “Can’t Hold Us” continues to top the DJ Music Charts for the fourth consecutive week. This particular chart is from DJ playlists nationwide and is different than the Billboard Hot 100, which has Robin Thicke “Blurred Lines” number 1. The top five of this week’s DJ Music Chart has Icona Pop, Selena Gomez, Justin Timberlake and Daft Punk all holding strong with Daft Punk “Get Lucky” reaching number 5 for the first time.
DJ Music Chart for Week 6/25 – C.H.R Format
Contemporary hit radio (also known as CHR, Contemporary Hits, Hit List, Current Hits, Hit Music, Top 40, or Pop Radio) is a radio format that is common in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia that focuses on playing current and recurrent popular music as determined by the Top 40 music charts. There are several subcategories, dominantly focusing on rock, pop, or urban music. Used alone, CHR most often refers to the CHR/pop format. The term Contemporary Hit Radio was coined in the early 1980s by Radio & Records magazine to designate Top 40 stations which continued to play hits from all musical genres such as pop music splintered into Adult contemporary, urban contemporary and other formats. The term Top 40 is also used to refer to the actual list of hit songs, and, by extension, to refer to pop music in general. The term has also been modified to describe Top 50; Top 30; Top 20; Top 10; Hot 100 (each with its number of songs) and Hot Hits radio formats, but carrying more or less the same meaning and having the same creative point of origin with Todd Storz as further refined by Gordon McLendon as well as Bill Drake.
