Following Fun. in the last posted video of songs that took an unusual route to Billboard success in The USA, Gotye Featuring Kimbra Somebody That I Used To Know found its way to the HOT 100 via popularity of a cover version on You Tube and iTunes by the Canadian band Walk Off The Earth. Strange to think a Belgian-Australian man and a New Zealand woman achieve commercial success in America via a Canadian cover of their song Gotye Featuring Kimbra Somebody That I Used To Know.
Gotye Featuring Kimbra Somebody That I Used To Know was #1 in Australia for eight weeks, the longest of any single since 1997. It is currently #26 on Billboard.
Gotye Featuring Kimbra Somebody That I Used To Know features tender but strong vocals from both artists and an amazing video. The symbolic artistry of Gotye starting naked on a white background and as the song continues his body and the background are covered with patches of ‘colored paint’ through stop motion animation. Kimbra begins naked and is facing the wall as she starts covered with ‘paint’ and it disappears after her vocal part. It ends with him having his colors and her naked without color, just skin. It is all tastefully done without any sexual components. I always appreciate recording artists that take visual risks in creativity and content.

Great song and video! The video premiered on 30 July 2011 and shows Gotye and Kimbra naked against a white backdrop, and while they sing, a pattern of paint gradually covers his skin and the backdrop via stop motion animation.
